About the position

The Alaska Regional Office of Earthjustice is dedicated to protecting the Alaska coastal rainforest, safeguarding America's Arctic, and conserving the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska marine ecosystem. Our work encompasses a wide range of environmental issues, including wildlife conservation, the protection of lands and waters from mining activities, and the enforcement of air and water quality standards. We also manage national parks and other public lands, ensuring that these vital resources are preserved for future generations. Our clients include national, regional, and local conservation organizations, Alaska Native tribal organizations, Alaskan communities, ecotourism businesses, and other entities committed to enforcing environmental laws. The breathtaking scenery and outstanding access to wilderness and recreational opportunities in both Juneau and Anchorage make these locations ideal for those who appreciate nature. The long daylight hours during summer provide an excellent opportunity to experience and appreciate the beauty of Alaska. Founded in 1971, Earthjustice has become the premier nonprofit environmental law organization in the United States, employing approximately 575 staff members across 15 strategically located offices. We leverage the power of law and the strength of partnerships to protect public health, preserve magnificent places and wildlife, advance clean energy initiatives, and combat climate change. Our organization collaborates with thousands of groups and supporters to tackle significant, precedent-setting cases nationwide, boasting a distinguished track record of achieving substantial and lasting environmental protections. Our work is organized into three major areas: Lands, Wildlife, and Oceans, which focuses on protecting endangered species and public lands; Healthy Communities, which aims to safeguard public health and prevent pollution; and Climate and Energy, which promotes a swift transition to clean energy while challenging reliance on fossil fuels. We invite law students from across the country to apply for a summer law clerk position, where they will have the opportunity to work closely with attorneys on case development and litigation strategy. Summer law clerks will engage in drafting pleadings and briefs, conducting legal research, developing legal theories, gathering evidence, and attending client meetings and court proceedings. The program also includes various offerings such as seminars with attorneys and guest speakers on current environmental issues, interactions with local and regional environmental groups, and a job interview workshop.
