About the position

The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) is seeking 7-8 summer clerks for its Bill Grimm Memorial Summer Clerk Program in 2025. This remote opportunity allows clerks to support various teams focused on issues affecting low-income children and youth, under the mentorship of legal or policy staff. The program emphasizes diversity and encourages applications from students of color and those with personal experiences relevant to NCYL's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Research and write legal and/or policy memoranda
  • Assist in ongoing impact litigation efforts, including reviewing discovery responses and drafting motions
  • Assist with administrative and legislative policy campaigns
  • Participate in community partnership work
  • Support ongoing impact litigation efforts
  • Research novel issues within youth law and policy
  • Analyze and interpret data related to youth systems
  • Develop, collect, and disseminate policy briefs and resources to stakeholders
  • Support legislative policy and/or budget campaigns
  • Participate in state and local coalitions and provide technical assistance to community partners

Requirements

  • Graduate student (master's or PhD candidate) or rising second- or third-year law student as of Summer 2025
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCYL's mission
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • At least one year of experience with communities of color or low-income communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to commit 37.5 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks between early June and mid-August 2025
