About the position

The Robotics Engineer position at APL is designed for recent graduates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics. The role involves working within an interdisciplinary team focused on innovative research in robotics, with applications in national defense, healthcare, and space exploration. The successful candidate will engage in defining and developing new robotic systems and algorithmic solutions, contributing to groundbreaking research that has real-world impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop new robotic systems and algorithmic solutions to address relevant challenges.
  • Engage in research areas including advanced robotic control, robot perception & reasoning, generative AI for robotic applications, and human-robot teaming.
  • Develop algorithms and implement machine learning techniques.
  • Design and fabricate hardware and integrate systems.
  • Support field tests and lead small teams.
  • Publish work and present results to the scientific community and government sponsors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience in robotics or robotics applications of AI, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mathematics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Python and C++.
  • Ability to obtain an interim Secret security clearance prior to reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with technical writing and publishing in scientific literature.
  • Experience developing, simulating, and demonstrating algorithms for control of robotic systems.
  • Experience developing AI/ML software that integrates with hardware such as robotic platforms, sensors, or medical devices.
  • Experience designing, fabricating, and integrating robotics hardware.
  • Proficiency in using robotics or AI libraries such as ROS, TensorFlow, Pytorch, and OpenCV.
