About the position

Earthjustice's California Regional Office is seeking law clerks for the summer of 2025 to work alongside our attorneys and advocates in our San Francisco and Los Angeles offices. The law clerks will play a vital role in supporting our mission to promote clean energy, protect frontline communities from harmful oil and gas extraction, safeguard sensitive ecosystems from toxic substances, and improve air quality across California. Our attorneys engage in litigation and administrative advocacy under various federal and state environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Environmental Policy Act. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental law and contribute to significant legal efforts aimed at achieving environmental justice. As a summer law clerk, you will have the chance to work closely with several attorneys on case development and litigation strategy. Your responsibilities will include drafting pleadings and briefs, conducting legal research, developing legal theories, gathering evidence, and attending client meetings and court proceedings. The program also features various educational offerings, including seminars with attorneys and guest speakers on current environmental issues, interactions with local and regional environmental groups, and a job interview workshop designed to prepare you for future opportunities in the legal field. Earthjustice is committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment for law clerks, ensuring that you gain valuable insights into the practice of environmental law while contributing to impactful cases. We welcome all interested law students from across the country to apply, and we encourage you to indicate your preferred office location in your cover letter.
