About the position

The Avionics and Electrical Systems Installations Engineer at Textron Aviation plays a crucial role in the product development pipeline for various aircraft types, including piston, turboprop, and jet aircraft. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from new product development to production line support, and continued field support for legacy jets. The engineer is tasked with ensuring that the installation of all avionics and electrical equipment meets stringent environmental, functional, weight, cost, and structural requirements, thereby upholding the highest standards of safety and customer reliability expectations. In this role, the engineer will prepare engineering drawings for the installation of avionics and electrical equipment and wire harnesses using advanced computer-based drafting tools such as CATIA V6. They will assist in the preparation of wiring diagrams and harness assemblies using specialized software like Mentor Graphics. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to writing test plans, conformity requests, functional tests, and compliance reports, ensuring that all systems meet regulatory standards. The position also involves providing production and field support, which includes design evaluations, troubleshooting, and conducting root-cause and corrective action analyses. Collaboration with various departments such as engineering, customer service, and flight test is essential to support a broad range of projects, leveraging the engineer's technical expertise. The engineer will perform advanced electrical and avionics design and integration analysis, requiring a solid application of mechanical engineering principles. Furthermore, they will prepare certification documentation, including plans and reports that demonstrate compliance with 14 CFR Part 23/25, and evaluate avionics and electrical system designs for function hazard assessments and system safety assessments. Continuous improvement of team processes and tools is also a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering drawings for the installation of avionics and electrical equipment and wire harnesses using computer based drafting tools (CATIA V6).
  • Assist in wiring diagram and harness assembly preparation using computer-based wiring software (Mentor Graphics).
  • Assist in writing test plans, conformity requests, functional tests, and compliance reports.
  • Assist in production and field support including design evaluations, troubleshooting, and root-cause and corrective action analyses.
  • Work alongside other organizations from engineering, customer service, ISC, flight test, and airworthiness to support a broad range of projects by providing your technical expertise.
  • Perform advanced electrical and avionics design and integration analysis requiring frequent application of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Prepare certification documentation including certification plans, ground and flight test plans and certification reports showing avionics and electrical systems compliance with 14 CFR Part 23/25.
  • Evaluate and analyze avionics and electrical system design for completion of function hazard assessments and system safety assessments.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of the team's processes and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or other related Engineering field.
  • Less than 2 years of professional experience in a relevant role.
  • Experience with avionics and electrical system design to the requirements of CFR 14 Part 23/25 is desired.
  • Experience with CATIA component and assembly design and drafting is strongly desired. CATIA V6 is preferred.
  • Experience with computer-aided wiring diagram and harnessing software is desired. Mentor Graphics is preferred.
  • Experience with electrical wiring, harnessing, and manufacturing is strongly desired.
  • Experience with a PLM system is desired. ENOVIA is preferred.
  • Strong computer, written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Time management skills are required to work multiple concurrent projects of various size and scope.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint are required, Visio experience is desired.
  • Design knowledge of electrical bonding criteria, thermal cooling requirements for electronic equipment, EMI shielding, and High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) / Indirect Effects of Lightning (IEL) installation criteria is considered a plus.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
