2025 Entry Level Firefighter

About the position

The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join its Fire Rescue team as entry-level firefighters. This role involves responding to fire, rescue, and emergency medical calls, providing essential services to the community, and participating in ongoing training to maintain skills. Successful candidates will initially work as part-time Cadets before transitioning to full-time Recruit Firefighters upon the start of the fire academy in June 2025.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency medical calls for service.
• Provide fire suppression and emergency medical treatment.
• Assist technical rescue teams during incidents.
• Stabilize incident areas in hazardous materials incidents.
• Establish safe medical treatment areas for patient assessment and transportation.
• Participate in training to maintain physical fitness and firefighting skills.
• Clean, maintain, and inspect apparatus and equipment every shift.
• Respond to public assistance requests, including welfare checks and first aid standby.
• Provide fire safety and prevention training to community groups.

Requirements

• Must have at least three years of paid-related public safety experience within the last four years to qualify as a Lateral Firefighter.
• Valid CPAT certification must be submitted prior to February 10, 2025.
• Must pass the FireTEAM exam through the National Testing Network.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in emergency medical services or firefighting is preferred.
• Previous training or certifications in CPR and First Aid.
