About the position
The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for creating and implementing data acquisition systems (DAS) to collect real-time data on flying test articles. This role supports new product development, certification, and fleet sustaining efforts by providing critical data to various engineering departments. The engineer will act as a liaison between different teams and manage the configuration of aircraft instrumentation to ensure data integrity.
Responsibilities
- Implement the Flight Test Instrumentation Request (FTIR) from request to data delivery.
- Act as a liaison and represent Instrumentation to aircraft systems engineers, Flight Test, customers, suppliers, and team members.
- Plan and provide guidance for the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, calibration, operation, and troubleshooting of data acquisition systems.
- Manage aircraft Instrumentation configuration prior to and during testing to assure data integrity.
- Develop improvements in standard practices to ensure traceability and quality of acquired data.
- Provide leadership, training, and mentoring for Instrumentation technicians.
- Work independently and make responsible decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field required.
- Experience in instrumentation or a related field is preferred.
- Less than 2 years of professional experience in a relevant role.
- Broad theoretical training and fundamental skills for troubleshooting electrical/mechanical aircraft systems.
- Knowledge of PCM (pulse coded modulation) encoders and signal conditioning.
- Knowledge of airborne data acquisition systems, transducer applications, and calibration techniques.
- Ability to utilize computers to create and modify data acquisition software.
- Ability to deal with change and work in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
