About the position

Textron Systems is seeking a Financial Analyst Intern for the summer of 2025, based in Newport News, VA. This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful projects that contribute to the financial operations of a leading defense technology company. As a Financial Analyst Intern, you will be responsible for conducting financial analysis, maintaining forecasts, and providing Estimate at Completion (EAC) reports. You will work under the guidance of experienced management, gaining hands-on experience in various financial functions including monthly budgets, cost projections, and sales and profit estimates. In this role, you will be an integral part of the program team, maintaining program measurement control systems and creating standard financial reports for the finance team and other business functions. You will provide day-to-day support to the program finance team, analyze program trend data for Estimate to Complete (ETC) validity checks, and deliver real-time information to management regarding EAC swings and program updates. This internship is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of financial operations within a defense contracting environment, while also allowing you to develop your analytical and reporting skills. The internship will take place from June 2025 to August 2025, during which you will have the chance to network with fellow interns, employees, and leadership across Textron Systems. You will also have opportunities for career development, including mentorship programs and training sessions, which are essential for your professional growth. Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial analysis and maintain forecasts for Textron Systems.
  • Provide Estimate at Completion (EAC) reports under the direction of management.
  • Assist in projects related to monthly budgets, cost projections, and sales and profit estimates.
  • Maintain program measurement control systems and create standard financial reports for the finance team.
  • Provide day-to-day support to the program finance team.
  • Analyze program trend data for Estimate to Complete (ETC) validity checks.
  • Provide real-time information to management regarding EAC swings and program updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface with management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Self-starter with the ability to assimilate data into reports.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work with other Finance and Accounting functions.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial reporting and analysis in a corporate environment.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts.
