About the position

This entry-level internship position at Textron Systems focuses on developing and coordinating strategies and plans with Manufacturing to enhance productivity. Under the supervision of management, the intern will implement practices aimed at reducing operating expenses, minimizing work in progress, and increasing overall production efficiency. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment, allowing the intern to learn and apply various methodologies and tools that contribute to operational excellence. The intern will be responsible for summarizing significant issues affecting manufacturing activities and communicating these to the Production Supervisor. They will also learn to develop crew load and shop load plans, estimate time values for standard operations, and provide schedule variance figures to assist in weekly performance reports. Additionally, the intern will be tasked with implementing cost reduction ideas through method improvements and ensuring that visual factory information remains current. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into time standards applications, schedule and cost analysis, manpower justification, and manufacturing cost savings. The intern will engage in various activities that contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the manufacturing process, making it an excellent starting point for a career in industrial engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Summarize significant issues affecting manufacturing activity to the Production Supervisor.
  • Develop crew load and shop load plans and reports.
  • Estimate time value or standard for operations in electronic systems.
  • Provide schedule variance figures to manufacturing and assist in weekly performance reports.
  • Implement cost reduction ideas through method improvements.
  • Provide weekly activity reports.
  • Ensure visual factory information is always current.
  • Apply time standards in manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct schedule and cost analysis.
  • Justify manpower requirements for production.
  • Identify and implement manufacturing cost savings.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Science or Industrial Engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use a personal computer suite of software packages such as Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Completion of Six Sigma training is preferred.
  • Compliance with ISO, DIs, and BHT SPIs, and MD standards is required.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and cost analysis techniques.
