About the position

Textron Systems is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern for the position of Industrial Engineer at our Lycoming facility in Williamsport, PA. This entry-level internship is designed for students pursuing a degree in Science or Industrial Engineering. The intern will work under the supervision of management to develop and coordinate strategies and plans that enhance productivity within the manufacturing environment. The role involves implementing practices aimed at reducing operating expenses, minimizing work in progress, and increasing overall production efficiency. As part of this internship, you will learn to summarize significant issues affecting manufacturing activities and communicate these to the production supervisor. You will also develop crew load and shop load plans, estimate time values for standard operations, and provide schedule variance figures to assist in performance reporting. The intern will be responsible for implementing cost reduction ideas and ensuring that visual factory information is always current. Additionally, you will engage in time standards applications, schedule and cost analysis, manpower justification, and identify opportunities for manufacturing cost savings. Responsibilities

  • Summarize significant issues affecting manufacturing activity to the Production supervisor.
  • Develop crew load/shop load plans and reports.
  • Estimate time value or standard operations in electronic systems.
  • Provide schedule variance figures to manufacturing and assist in weekly performance reports.
  • Implement cost reduction ideas through method improvements.
  • Provide weekly activity reports.
  • Ensure visual factory information is always current.
  • Apply time standards in manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct schedule and cost analysis.
  • Justify manpower requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for manufacturing cost savings.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Science or Industrial Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use personal computer software packages such as Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Completion of Six Sigma training is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO, DIs, and BHT SPIs, and MD compliance.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
