Earthjustice's International Program is dedicated to leveraging deep expertise in foreign, U.S., and international environmental, energy, and human rights law, as well as foreign and international litigation. The program collaborates with partners across Africa, Indonesia, Australia, Latin America, and other regions to engage in domestic and international legal advocacy aimed at reducing reliance on fossil fuels and accelerating the transition to clean energy. Staff members within the International Program work closely with public interest environmental organizations and communities to establish, strengthen, and enforce legal protections for the environment and public health at both national and international levels. Founded in 1971, Earthjustice has grown to become the premier nonprofit environmental law organization in the United States, employing approximately 575 staff members across 15 strategically located offices. The organization utilizes the power of law and the strength of partnerships to protect public health, preserve natural landscapes and wildlife, promote clean energy, and combat climate change. Earthjustice collaborates with thousands of groups and supporters to tackle significant, precedent-setting cases nationwide, boasting a distinguished track record of achieving substantial and lasting environmental protections. The organization is committed to being a strong advocate for the earth, embodying the motto that the earth needs a good lawyer. Earthjustice's work is organized into three primary areas: Lands, Wildlife, and Oceans, which focuses on protecting endangered species, national forests, national parks, public lands, water resources, and oceans; Healthy Communities, which aims to safeguard public health, prevent pollution, and reduce exposure to toxic chemicals, particularly in communities disproportionately affected by environmental hazards; and Climate and Energy, which promotes a swift and just transition to clean energy while challenging the continued reliance on coal, oil, and other harmful fuels. The summer law clerk position offers law students the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that contributes to these vital areas of advocacy.
