About the position

The 2025 Internship in Software Engineering/Data Science/Ontology at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) offers an opportunity for students to apply their education in a collaborative environment focused on addressing national challenges. Interns will work within the Threat Analytic Systems Group, contributing to innovative AI-enabled systems that enhance the ability to observe and act on threat activities. This role emphasizes personal development and teamwork in a multi-disciplinary setting, engaging with projects in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop technical solutions for national challenges.
  • Apply skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science to real-world projects.
  • Engage in mobile and web-based software development, natural language processing, and semantic web technologies.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance and ultimately a Secret level security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working successfully within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with WebServices and RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with SQL and non-relational databases.
