About the position

The 2025 Masters Summer Internship in Portfolio Management at PIMCO is designed for students pursuing a Quantitative Master's degree. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the Analytics Team, contributing to PIMCO's investment process through quantitative analysis and model development. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a high-performance, inclusive culture that values diverse thinking and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models for alpha generation and manage risk in collaboration with portfolio managers.
  • Perform econometric analyses of historic returns and build empirical and risk-neutral valuation models.
  • Apply macroeconomic research and analyze large sets of transaction data to improve trade execution.
  • Participate in PIMCO's Global Month of Volunteering and engage in networking and social events.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from seasoned professionals throughout the internship.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Quantitative Master's degree in financial engineering or a related technical field.
  • Must be able to begin full-time employment from a PIMCO office between January 2026 - August 2026.
  • Must be enrolled at a university during the Fall 2025 semester.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a technical degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at an accredited institution.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing).

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest in finance theory, particularly portfolio theory and asset allocation techniques.
  • Programming skills in Python, Matlab, SAS, C++, or similar languages; SQL knowledge preferred.
  • Formal training in Econometrics, especially time series econometrics.
  • Comfortable working with large structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Good exposure to financial markets.
