About the position

Earthjustice is seeking summer law clerks to join our Northwest Office, which has been actively involved in environmental advocacy since 1987. The Northwest Office focuses on preserving the unique natural resources and environment of the Pacific Northwest, engaging in campaigns that protect old-growth forests, promote salmon recovery, improve air and water quality, and combat climate change. As a summer law clerk, you will have the opportunity to work closely with attorneys on case development and litigation strategy, contributing to significant environmental protections. You will engage in various tasks such as drafting pleadings and briefs, conducting legal research, developing legal theories, gathering evidence, and attending client meetings and court proceedings. This position is designed to provide law students with hands-on experience in environmental law and advocacy, while also offering exposure to current environmental issues through seminars and interactions with local and regional environmental groups. The summer law clerk program is structured to last for 10 weeks, with full-time hours of 37.5 hours per week. Compensation for the clerkship includes a stipend of $1,319.00 per week, which may be adjusted based on any external funding secured by the student. Candidates must be enrolled in a U.S. law school through fall 2025 and be available for the full duration of the clerkship. The application process requires submission of a resume, a tailored cover letter, a legal writing sample, and an unofficial transcript. Finalists will also need to provide references from law school faculty or legal professionals. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Earthjustice's mission of protecting public health and the environment while gaining valuable legal experience.
