About the position

Dana Incorporated is seeking to fill a 2025 spring hardware engineering co-op position at their Novi, Michigan facility located at 28001 Cabot Drive, Novi, MI 48377. This is a great opportunity to develop your technical skills by working alongside Dana's engineers in the completion of departmental oriented tasks and assignments. The co-op position is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in the field of hardware engineering, specifically focusing on the design and development of circuits for automotive applications. Co-ops will grow and develop through rotations of increasing responsibility and complexity in their assigned tasks, allowing them to gain valuable insights into the engineering processes and methodologies used in the automotive industry. The primary objective of this role is the delivery of high-quality, robust designs of circuits for use in the development of products for automotive and adjacent markets. The co-op will be involved in various design activities, including requirements capture, specification writing, circuit design and analysis, component selection, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), reliability analysis, validation testing, and the preparation of test and engineering reports. Additionally, the co-op will coordinate day-to-day activities within a cross-functional design team that includes Systems and Software engineers, ensuring that all designs are executed in accordance with internal and customer quality and process requirements. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn and apply engineering principles in a real-world setting, contributing to the development of innovative automotive technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Performing design activities including requirements capture, specification writing, circuit design and analysis, component selection, DFMEA, reliability analysis, validation testing, and documentation.
  • Day-to-day coordination within a cross-functional design team including Systems and Software engineers.
  • Ensuring that designs are executed in accordance with internal and customer quality/process requirements.

Requirements

  • Enrollment & active pursuit of a Bachelor of Science or Masters in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in circuit design and assembly is a plus.
  • Familiarity with using common electronics laboratory tools (multi meters, oscilloscopes, soldering station, wiring harness fabrication).
  • Confident interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively operate and communicate in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Keen to learn new skills and absorb technical input through coaching, review, and self-learning.
  • Aptitude and desire to work in a hands-on capacity when required to support vehicle testing, calibration, and laboratory testing efforts.
  • Basic working knowledge/principles of common automotive systems - Powertrain brakes, hybrid systems, and suspensions.
