About the position

The 2025 Spring/Summer Part-Time Corps Member position with AmeriCorps at Chicago HOPES for Kids focuses on providing educational support and mentorship to children experiencing homelessness. The role involves assisting with homework, offering literacy support, and planning enrichment activities, all while fostering a compassionate and adaptable environment for young learners. Members will engage in a holistic approach to education, emphasizing social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with homework help and provide individual literacy support to students.
  • Conduct reading assessments to evaluate student progress.
  • Help plan and facilitate enrichment activities for students.
  • Attend weekly virtual meetings and bi-weekly supervisor check-ins.
  • Participate in mandatory service days and community outreach efforts.
  • Gain experience in nonprofit operations, including field trip planning and curriculum development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in tutoring or mentoring is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work 12-16 hours weekly during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Afternoon availability to be present at program sites 4 days a week.
