About the position

The 2025 Summer Intern position in the Antibody Engineering Department at Genentech offers a unique opportunity for students pursuing advanced degrees to gain hands-on experience in drug development. The intern will collaborate with scientists to drive the development of antibody therapeutics, focusing on protein engineering techniques and in vitro display platforms. This role is designed to provide practical exposure to the biotechnology industry and contribute to impactful projects aimed at addressing unmet medical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Apply protein engineering techniques to improve antibody binding and developability properties.
  • Construct, screen, and analyze large antibody libraries using in vitro display platforms such as ribosome and yeast display.
  • Analyze antibody binding using techniques like FACS and SPR.
  • Develop oral and written presentations of findings for discussions with collaborators and for publication.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular/Cancer Biology, or related disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience with core molecular biology techniques such as cloning, cell culture, and biochemical assays.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques, problem solve, and work independently and in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with protein engineering techniques.
  • Previous experience analyzing protein and DNA sequences using software like PyMol, Snapgene, Geneious, or Benchling.
  • Basic scripting knowledge in Python, R, or Matlab.
