About the position

The Software Engineer position within the Engineering Efficiencies team at General Motors focuses on developing and deploying solutions to support prioritized initiatives throughout Software and Services. The role requires collaboration with lead engineers to enhance internal customer experiences through technology upgrades, migrations, and platform improvements. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid environment, reporting to an innovation center three times a week, and will utilize various tools and technologies to contribute to the transformation of GM's platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy solutions in support of assigned initiatives.
  • Collaborate with lead engineers to enhance internal customer experiences.
  • Utilize a variety of tools, languages, frameworks, and technologies for development.
  • Participate in backlog refinements and strategic work assignments.
  • Contribute to the strengthening of Software and Services platforms.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields, graduating between December 2025 and May 2027.
  • Software development experience in Java or another object-oriented language.
  • Experience using Spring Boot, Oracle/Postgres, SQL and No-SQL DB, Kafka, RESTful API, Redis.
  • Demonstrated experience with test-driven development.
  • Experience with CI/CD process and pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience using Git version control systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork focus and ability to foster collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Kubernetes/Docker, Azure Cloud, Azure Event Hubs, Quartz, Pulsar, ArgoCD.
  • Experience with Web development technologies such as Angular, React, HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
  • Experience with metrics, monitoring and log aggregation technologies such as ElasticSearch, Prometheus, Grafana, and Kibana.
  • Familiarity with other Integration platforms such as Azure API Management.
  • At least one prior internship experience in a related field.
