At General Motors, we strive for a culture of excellence, driven by integrity, ingenuity, and innovation. We are seeking Industrial Engineer interns who will engage in hands-on work that directly contributes to our company's success. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing the efficiency of manufacturing operations, focusing on personnel, materials, machines, and facilities. This role requires strong leadership abilities, critical thinking, and effective communication skills, with decision-making supported by mentorship from supervisors. Interns will confirm or recommend changes to layouts, labor control, and material control, while frequently interacting with others outside their work group. They will assist in developing accurate methods and optimal operation layouts, create operation descriptions, and perform vital calculations to complete studies and implement changes in labor and material control systems. The position has specific physical requirements, including the ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods, read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections. Interns must be able to promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals, and wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes. The work environment is a loud manufacturing setting that is not climate-controlled, with conditions that can be hot or cold. Interns will frequently bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform their duties, and may lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds. They may also need to sit, climb (including ladders and lifts), and drive vehicles and equipment as part of their responsibilities.
