About the position

The Paint Process Engineer Intern role at General Motors (GM) is designed for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering fields. This internship provides an opportunity to work onsite at GM plants, focusing on developing efficiencies in material flow and implementing new processes and equipment. Interns will gain hands-on experience in root cause analysis, problem-solving, and leadership while ensuring quality and safety in manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that assembly processes are maintained to run effectively for engine manufacturing.
  • Work with other team members on problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives daily.
  • Collaborate with hourly and salaried employees.
  • Analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans, and resolve issues affecting assembly, quality, or throughput.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing costs, energy usage, and improving quality.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance personnel to resolve issues and implement improvements.
  • Propose and evaluate processes for equipment in production areas.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing operations.
  • Coordinate input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and perceptions.
  • Keep abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, Controls Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering/Materials Science, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Must be graduating between December 2025 and May 2028.
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months.
  • Willing to work in a plant environment.
