About the position

The Software Engineering Intern position at General Motors offers engineering students the opportunity to work on innovative software solutions that enhance vehicle intelligence, safety, and sustainability. Interns will engage in backend development, mobile and web application development, and AI solutions, contributing to the advancement of software-defined vehicles and supporting business objectives in a rapidly evolving automotive market.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust and scalable backend systems, craft business logic, and expose data through APIs.
  • Collaborate with frontend teams to ensure seamless integration and deliver optimal user experiences.
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance mobile and web applications.
  • Drive product innovation by architecting, implementing, and testing robust solutions.
  • Create cutting-edge digital experiences using General Motors' vehicle hardware.
  • Leverage AI to create groundbreaking user experiences and deploy AI solutions.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Must be graduating between December 2025 and December 2027.
  • Completing at least the second year of undergraduate studies in the above fields.
  • At least one prior internship experience in a related field.
  • Must return to school to continue education after the internship or have the internship as the final requirement for graduation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong object-oriented design skills and in-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: Java, Kotlin, C/C++, PHP, Python, Ruby, Unix, MySQL, JavaScript, CSS, HTML5.
  • Experience with distributed systems implementation.
  • Experience with web frameworks such as ReactJS, NodeJS.
  • Expertise in client-server protocol and API design.
  • Ability to translate multi-functional requirements into practical engineering tasks.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
