About the position

A Merchandising Internship at Walmart offers a unique opportunity for students to explore a career in one of the world's largest retail organizations. This 11-week paid internship, scheduled for the summer of 2025, is designed for students in their penultimate year of college. Interns will engage in meaningful projects that will prepare them for a future in merchandising while networking with industry experts and developing essential skills at Walmart's headquarters in Northwest Arkansas. During the internship, participants will gain insights into the core merchandising business and its support functions, including Private Brands, Sourcing, Planning, Business Analytics, and Replenishment. Interns will leverage data analysis tools to perform basic statistical analyses, derive insights, and create reports that influence decision-making. They will also be responsible for executing customer communication programs, ensuring the quality of product page content, and collaborating with various teams to enhance the shopper experience. Interns will support category finances by tracking performance against financial targets, creating sales reports, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting processes. They will develop and execute proposals for features across stores and online channels, support modular layout principles, and assist in resolving supplier issues. The role also involves executing business plans, managing cross-functional initiatives, and providing insights to senior management on key business strategies. This internship is an in-person role in a corporate office environment, specifically located in Bentonville, AR. It is ideal for students pursuing degrees in General Business, Retail/Buying, Merchandising, Economics, Accounting/Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain, or Entrepreneurship. The position requires enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage data analysis tools to explore data and perform basic statistical analysis.
  • Create basic reports and use visualization tools to represent data.
  • Own the execution of customer communication and education programs in stores.
  • Collaborate with the modular team and ensure the quality of product page content.
  • Support category finances by tracking performance against financial targets and creating sales reports.
  • Develop and execute approved proposals for features across stores and online channels.
  • Support the implementation of modular layout principles for a category along with the modular team.
  • Assist merchants with the resolution of supplier issues and setup of new suppliers.
  • Support the execution of business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs.
  • Manage cross-functional initiatives that impact store and corporate processes.
