About the position

The SLD ECLS Hardware Engineer I position at Blue Origin is designed for recent university graduates who will contribute to the development of Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) systems for lunar missions. This role involves working within a collaborative team to ensure the safety and functionality of life support systems that allow humans to inhabit space. The engineer will engage in various technical tasks, including system modeling, compliance checks, and collaboration with suppliers, all aimed at supporting the mission of returning humans to the Moon and establishing a permanent presence there.

Responsibilities

  • Support development, build and test for one or more of the following ECLS subsystems: Pressure Control, Air Handling, Air Revitalization, Water Processing and Distribution, Fire Protection or Air Monitoring.
  • Solve technical and program problems with guidance from your Lead.
  • Perform first order analyses for fluid or air flow, heat transfer, structural analysis.
  • Evaluate requirements and draft specifications.
  • Perform system modeling, calculations and trades.
  • Work with suppliers and sub-contracts for components.
  • Show system and component compliance to Blue and NASA technical requirements.
  • Be an active part of the team for your hardware.
  • Adhere to Blue Leadership Principles.

Requirements

  • BS in related engineering field (preferred is Mechanical Engineering).
  • Must graduate and be able to start a full-time role by August 2025.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in one or more areas of the product life cycle.
  • Experience leading a small technical team.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Control and Life Support Systems.
