About the position

The Thermal Hardware Engineer I position at Blue Origin is focused on developing spacecraft thermal control systems as part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. This role involves working within a diverse team to create sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo to the Lunar surface, contributing to the mission of enabling millions of people to live and work in space. The engineer will be responsible for thermal components from conception through development, testing, and integration, playing a key role in the design and execution of thermal systems for lunar landers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • Develop thermal components from conception through testing and integration with the vehicle.
  • Collaborate with the Thermal Analysis group within the Lunar Thermal integrated product team.
  • Create component specifications, test plans, and execute reports.
  • Participate in short and long-term development planning and make/buy decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 0+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 2+ years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing hardware.
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware and semi-passive devices.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems.
