About the position

The Technical Operations Associate Engineering Specialist at Merck Sharp & Dohme is responsible for providing technical and operational support to the vaccine manufacturing area. This role is crucial in ensuring the performance and results of the manufacturing department, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation within one of the company's largest vaccine manufacturing sites. The position emphasizes collaboration within an empowered team culture and offers opportunities across various engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the performance and results of a vaccine manufacturing department.
  • Provides technical guidance and applies technical skills to support manufacturing.
  • Works as a team member on manufacturing investigations, change control activities, validation activities, and/or process improvement projects.
  • Examines issues from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, automation, equipment, process, and people) to best understand and resolve root cause and prevent future occurrences.
  • Assures consistent application of standardized work, engineering/process tools, and procedures.
  • Assists with and/or leads experimental protocols as needed using the Technical Operations lab facilities and/or production equipment at full scale.
  • Authors and updates technical and manufacturing documents necessary for investigations, process design/definition, engineering studies, process demonstrations, change control, and validation.
  • Participates in regulatory inspection activities as needed.
  • Effectively collaborates with equipment vendors, peers at West Point, and peers above site.
  • Innovates by initiating/leading business and technical process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering or Sciences by July 2025.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member with integrity, precision, attention to detail, motivation, and respect.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated effective communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in biologics, vaccine, or sterile manufacturing.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Experience using data analytics, programming, and/or automation tools.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including leading small projects.
