About the position

The Future Talent Program at Merck offers internships that last up to 12 weeks, providing participants with the opportunity to engage in one or more projects within the Animal Health Division. The 2025 Cattle Sales Internship is a field-based position primarily located in Tennessee, with travel to other states in the Southeast region. This role is designed to actively support the sales strategy across various territories by coordinating and executing sales support activities. Interns will be involved in promoting and supporting the Animal Health product portfolio, which includes Bio-Pharma products, Allflex ID products, and livestock monitoring services. The intern will ensure that veterinarians, dealers, resellers, and livestock producers receive the necessary support in utilizing these products effectively. In addition to product support, the intern will provide logistical assistance for market field trials, collaborate with Sales and Tech Services, and develop plans to engage customers while addressing their needs. Participation in field-based events, such as trade shows and customer education sessions, will also be a key responsibility. Clear and timely communication, along with problem identification, will be essential in this role to ensure the success of sales initiatives. Candidates for this internship must be currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, such as Animal Science, Agribusiness, Veterinary School, or another Animal Health-related field, and have completed at least two years of college coursework by June 2025. The position requires candidates to be at least 20 years old to meet rental car agreement criteria, possess a valid driver's license, and be available for full-time work for 12 weeks starting May 19, 2025. The role also demands a significant amount of travel, estimated at 75%.

Responsibilities

  • Support and service the Animal Health product portfolio.
  • Promote the sales and success of Animal Health products and services, including Bio-Pharma products, Allflex ID products, and livestock monitoring services.
  • Provide support to veterinarians, dealers, resellers, and livestock producers in using the products.
  • Assist with logistical support for market field trials in collaboration with Sales and Tech Services.
  • Develop and execute plans for engaging customers and meeting their needs.
  • Participate in field-based events, including trade shows and customer education regarding Animal Health products and services.
  • Ensure clear, concise, and timely communication with Sales and Tech Services.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Animal Science, Agribusiness, Veterinary School, or an Animal Health-related degree program.
  • Completed at least 2 years of college coursework by June 2025.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older at the start of the internship to meet rental car agreement criteria.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a vehicle.
  • Available to work full-time for 12 weeks beginning on May 19, 2025.
  • Ability to travel 75%.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • General computer skills, including working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and ability to use an iPad.
  • Ability to be organized, adapt to a changing environment, and work independently as well as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of the Animal Health and Animal Feed industries.
  • Retail and/or Customer Service experience.
  • Sales training and/or applied sales experience.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Additional language fluency is highly desirable.
