About the position

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Teacher plays a vital role in the afterschool program, which is designed to enhance students' academic performance, attendance, behavior, promotion rates, and graduation rates. This part-time position requires the teacher to work 2.5 hours per day, four days a week, under the supervision of the 21st CCLC Site Coordinator. The teacher will be responsible for facilitating and leading various programs and activities that align with the center's policies and the overall goals of the 21st CCLC initiative. In this role, the teacher will maintain effective communication with the Site Coordinator and other school personnel, ensuring that all program requirements are met. The teacher will lead and participate in afterschool activities, engage in lesson planning, and collaborate with parents, students, and community members in a respectful and confidential manner. Additionally, the teacher will identify necessary supplies and resources, participate in professional development, and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor. This position is crucial for fostering a positive learning environment and supporting the development of youth in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and lead programs and activities in accordance with program and center policies.
  • Maintain effective communication with the 21st CCLC Site Coordinator and/or school personnel.
  • Follow direction of the Site Coordinator or other managers regarding policies and procedures.
  • Lead, participate in, and take responsibility for afterschool program activities at the assigned site.
  • Participate in out-of-school time program lesson planning and design.
  • Meet with parents, students, and community members; communicate in a respectful and confidential manner.
  • Identify needed supplies and resources, and inform the Site Coordinator.
  • Participate in professional development and program-related training activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively to multiple audiences.
  • Willingness to work positively with and mentor youth.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Pass required criminal background checks.
  • Ability to perform all tasks identified in this job description.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Good physical condition with the ability to lift 10 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in an Education field.
  • Experience working in a school- or community-based out-of-school time organization.
  • Knowledge of afterschool programs, communities, and/or positive youth development.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish), (English and Arabic).
