About the position

Kroger is currently seeking Department Leader Trainees for the Knoxville area. This position is designed for individuals who have a passion for retail leadership and are looking to advance their careers within the grocery industry. The role involves participating in a comprehensive six-week training program that will equip trainees with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective department leaders. During this training, candidates will be required to travel locally between various Kroger stores in the East Tennessee area, with some mileage expenses covered by the company. Upon successful completion of the training program, validated department leaders will assist stores in the area until a permanent position becomes available. Once a permanent opening is secured, the department leader will be assigned to one store, where they will take on full responsibilities of the department leader role. The starting pay for this position is $22.40 per hour, with the potential for increases based on the volume of the assigned store after permanent placement. Additionally, there is bonus potential available once the trainee is permanently assigned to a store. Responsibilities

  • Participate in a six-week training program to learn the responsibilities of a department leader.
  • Assist in managing daily operations of the assigned department after training.
  • Support store management in achieving sales and profitability goals.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in the department.
  • Provide excellent customer service and address customer inquiries or concerns.
  • Train and mentor new team members in the department.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering products as needed.

Requirements

  • At least one year of leadership experience in a retail or food service environment is preferred.
  • Ability to commute to various store locations in the Knoxville area.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grocery or bakery departments is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is beneficial.
