About the position

The Assistant Canvass Director position at Donor Development Strategies (DDS) is a vital role focused on fundraising for public media stations, specifically GBH in Boston. This position requires a strong leader who can effectively manage canvassing staff while actively participating in fieldwork. The role involves canvassing 4-5 days a week, where the Assistant Canvass Director will not only lead by example but also ensure that the team meets and exceeds fundraising quotas. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field training and regular check-ins with staff to maintain high standards of performance and professionalism. In addition to fieldwork, the Assistant Canvass Director will handle various administrative tasks, including collecting and reporting data from daily operations, ensuring the security and management of donor data, and depositing donations with clients. Effective communication with the Director Team and Project Manager is essential, as the Assistant Canvass Director will participate in company-wide communication channels and may take on additional projects as assigned. This role is ideal for someone who values community resources and is passionate about public media. Responsibilities

  • Canvass 4-5 days per week and perform field training and regular check-ins with all staff.
  • Meet and exceed minimum fundraising and canvass shift quotas in the field.
  • Manage staff by creating and executing training plans and holding them accountable for scheduled shifts and professionalism.
  • Collect and report data from daily and weekly operations, ensuring the maintenance and security of donor data.
  • Deposit fully accounted for donations with the client each night.
  • Effectively communicate with the Director Team and Project Manager, participating in company-wide communication channels.

Requirements

  • Prior canvassing, organizing, fundraising, and/or leadership experience.
  • Experience recruiting employees or volunteers, including hiring and firing staff.
  • Base-level proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and cloud-based storage platforms.
  • Professional communication skills, including public speaking, professional writing, and strong telephone skills.
  • Attention to detail, office management/administrative experience, and basic accounting skills are required.
  • Organized, efficient, and good at multi-tasking; must be an excellent time manager.
