About the position

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual for the position of Executive Director of The Office of Youth Re-Engagement for the 2024-2025 school year. This role is pivotal in leading the Office of Youth Re-Engagement, which is dedicated to designing, implementing, and sustaining student-centered programs aimed at supporting Opportunity Youth. This includes justice-involved youth, those who have left the education system before earning a high school diploma, and youth who are significantly off-track towards graduation. The Executive Director will collaborate closely with district staff and community partners to create and execute a bold strategy that ensures all Opportunity Youth are on a path towards a degree and a thriving future. The Executive Director will be responsible for driving the alignment of internal work streams connected to Opportunity Youth across the central office, strengthening partnerships with city, county, and community agencies, and leading a diverse team towards achieving the goals aligned with the team's strategy and vision. This position requires a strong commitment to advancing racial equity and justice in education, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve common goals. In addition to program design and management, the Executive Director will oversee the monitoring and improvement of alternative programs, facilitate student discipline issues, and manage inquiries and grievances from students, staff, and parents. The role also involves designing and facilitating professional development for staff, ensuring that the team is equipped to meet the diverse needs of students. Responsibilities

  • Drive the alignment of internal work streams connected to Opportunity Youth across the central office.
  • Strengthen partnerships with city, county, and community agencies to deepen the collective impact on Opportunity Youth.
  • Collaborate with a cross-systems consortium that serves as an advisory and work group.
  • Improve student referral processes to MMSD Innovative & Alternative programs in collaboration with other departments.
  • Lead the monitoring and improvement of all current and future non-SPED alternative programs and partnerships.
  • Design and launch student-centered programs tailored to meet the unique needs of Opportunity Youth.
  • Systematically collect, analyze, and use data to make design changes.
  • Effectively communicate findings and design rationale to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Lead a diverse team towards meeting goals aligned to the team's strategy and vision.
  • Manage improvement processes and professional development for MMSD teaching staff.
  • Facilitate and manage student discipline and related issues.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate staff that report directly to the Executive Director.
  • Oversee and supervise the District's expulsion abeyance program, Restore.
  • Design and facilitate learning experiences for team members' personal and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Must have Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction #5051 Principal and #5010 Director of Instruction License.
  • Extensive experience working with diverse populations in terms of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, SPED, and ELL; bilingual (English/Spanish) / bicultural preferred.
  • Experience in K-12 schools or education nonprofits, preferably with direct experience in innovative school models.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing a vision/strategy and leading a team toward achieving it.
  • Experience serving justice-involved, out-of-school, and significantly off-track youth and their families.
  • Proven experience effectively managing system-level projects.
