About the position

The Madison Metropolitan School District is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Grade 1 DBE/ESL Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year at Hawthorne Elementary. This full-time position aims to foster an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment for a diverse student population, ensuring that every child thrives academically and socially. The teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and collaborating with staff and families to support student learning.

Responsibilities

• Use standards to identify common learning targets for students.
• Develop daily and weekly plans to support student growth towards mastery of standards.
• Establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Instruct students using various teaching methods to build engagement and independence.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' varying needs.
• Provide daily opportunities for students to describe their reasoning and share explanations.
• Define and plan formative assessments to show evidence of learning.
• Provide meaningful feedback to students to promote involvement and progress.
• Analyze data and adjust instruction based on student achievement and observations.
• Meet with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and resource needs.
• Collaborate with staff in support of student learning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
• Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Regular Education (1777, 1088, 2088).
• Bilingual Spanish Teaching Certification.
• Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience.
