About the position

The Substitute English Teacher for Cumberland County Schools is responsible for providing instructional support and leadership in the classroom. This role requires a commitment to creating a respectful and inclusive environment for a diverse population of students. The teacher will demonstrate knowledge of the content they teach and facilitate learning by employing various instructional methods and integrating technology into their lessons. The goal is to engage students in meaningful learning experiences that align with the common core and essential standards, while also promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and other essential skills necessary for success in the 21st century. In this position, the teacher will work collaboratively with families and significant adults in the lives of their students, adapting their teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with special requirements. The teacher will also embrace diversity within the school community and reflect on their teaching practices to ensure continuous improvement. Ethical principles such as honesty, integrity, and respect for others will guide the teacher's interactions with students, staff, and the community. The Substitute English Teacher will also serve as a role model for other employees, demonstrating a commitment to the organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer-driven service, and valuing diversity. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed, and the teacher must be prepared to perform various duties to support the educational mission of the school.

Requirements

  • A four-year degree from an accredited institution with NC certification in the assigned area of teaching.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Finger dexterity and physical capability to perform basic life operational functions such as kneeling, sitting, walking, and lifting.
