About the position

The Long Term Substitute Teacher for Grade 5 Science and Social Studies at Somerville Public Schools is responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for students. This role involves understanding child development, providing differentiated instruction, and ensuring equitable access to the curriculum. The teacher will collaborate with other educators and communicate with parents to support students' academic and social-emotional growth.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the safety, care, and wellbeing of students.
• Plan, prepare, and organize materials for curriculum delivery.
• Collaborate with other educators and communicate with adults responsible for students' learning.
• Establish relationships with parents and caregivers, maintaining two-way communication about student progress.
• Plan units and lessons aligned to State standards and district curriculum.
• Provide ongoing formative and summative assessments and analyze assessment data to determine learning needs.
• Adapt curriculum and instruction to meet varied learning strengths and needs of students.
• Establish and maintain culturally responsive communication with parents and guardians.
• Collaborate with other educators for specialized instruction and social-emotional support.
• Follow guidance from the School Principal and other administrators to maintain a safe and equitable learning environment.
• Participate in professional growth opportunities and reflect on current practices.

Requirements

• Appropriate Department of Elementary and Secondary Educator's license in the field or subject for this position.
• DESE SEI endorsement required.
• Bilingual Educator preferred.
