About the position

The Long Term Substitute Teacher for Strings at Somerville Public Schools is responsible for maintaining the safety and well-being of students while providing opportunities for their learning and social-emotional development. This role requires a strong understanding of child and youth development, high expectations for student achievement, and the ability to implement differentiated instruction strategies to meet diverse learning needs. The teacher will collaborate with other educators and communicate effectively with parents and caregivers to support student progress.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the safety, care, and well-being of students.
• Plan, prepare, and organize materials for curriculum delivery.
• Collaborate with other educators and communicate with adults responsible for students' learning.
• Establish relationships with parents and caregivers, maintaining two-way communication about student progress.
• Plan units and lessons aligned to State standards and district curriculum.
• Provide ongoing formative and summative assessments and analyze assessment data to determine learning needs.
• Adapt curriculum and instruction to meet varied learning strengths and needs of students.
• Establish and maintain culturally responsive communication with parents and guardians.
• Collaborate with other educators for specialized instruction and social-emotional support.
• Follow guidance from the School Principal and other administrators to maintain a safe and equitable learning environment.
• Participate in professional growth opportunities and reflect on current practices.
• Acquire and distribute string instruments throughout the district.
• Instruct students on proper maintenance of string instruments.
• Prepare students for annual school performances and district-wide performances.
• Communicate with families about student behaviors and upcoming performances.

Requirements

• Appropriate Department of Elementary and Secondary Educator's license in the field or subject for this position.
• DESE SEI endorsement required.
• Bilingual Educator preferred.
