About the position

The Planning Specialist is responsible for formulating student assignment plans, producing population projections, and developing strategies for future growth within Cumberland County Schools. This role involves maintaining demographic data, conducting site selection for new schools, and serving as a liaison with various planning departments. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as proficiency in various software applications related to planning and data management.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates student assignment plans.
  • Produces student population projections and develops strategies for future growth.
  • Develops and implements strategies for student promotion in the computer system.
  • Provides statistical analysis and prepares reports and presentations.
  • Maintains demographic data on student and county population.
  • Conducts initial site selection process for new schools.
  • Maintains the address database on PowerSchool and the AS400.
  • Develops and maintains the planning department page on the CCS website.
  • Develops and maintains the geographical information system.
  • Provides the digital maps for the county GIS department to maintain the Find Your School program.
  • Maintains the CCS Property Accounting Book, deed/easement files and databases related to Real Property.
  • Liaison with City & County Planning departments, FAMPO, Fort Bragg Planning, and NCDOT.
  • Serves on the Transportation Coordinating Committee.
  • Monitors facility utilization.
  • Monitors new development by visual inspection.
  • Serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven and valuing diversity.
  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Planning, Geography or related field required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Excellent mathematical and computer skills.
  • Proficient in Geographical Information Systems, Microsoft Suite, Word Press, Google Suite, AutoCad and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Proficiency with PowerSchool and AS400 programs is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and self-motivated.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Familiarity with local planning regulations and processes.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $4,934 - $7,018 a month.
