About the position

The position involves developing, modeling, and teaching fair and unbiased relationships among all members of the interscholastic athletics community. The role focuses on communicating the mission and role of athletics, ensuring adherence to conduct policies, and fostering a respectful environment for athletes and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a clear understanding of the mission and role of interscholastic athletics.
  • Execute a plan to communicate the mission and role to players, parents, staff, and the public.
  • Model and communicate policies for athletics conduct in various settings.
  • Allow athletes to compete fairly for positions each season without bias from previous seasons.
  • Encourage athletes to engage in other school and community activities.
  • Communicate the relationship between interscholastic athletics and general education to stakeholders.
  • Teach respect for school authorities and contest officials to participants.
  • Support players in cases of adverse decisions and refrain from public criticism.
  • Ensure strict adherence to game rules and contest regulations among players.
  • Report any evidence of rule violations through proper channels.
  • Counteract rumors and unproven allegations against opponents.
  • Attend required meetings and stay informed about relevant policies and regulations.
  • Report scores or newsworthy information to the appropriate authorities.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of interscholastic athletics and its mission.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey policies and mission effectively.
  • Ability to model fair and unbiased behavior in athletics.
  • Knowledge of game rules and contest regulations.
  • Experience in teaching or coaching in an athletic setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community engagement and promoting extracurricular activities.
  • Background in conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Familiarity with MCPS and TSSAA policies.
