About the position

Education for Change is seeking a dynamic and visionary Art Teacher for grades TK-5 who will engage students and families to ensure high student achievement. The teacher will provide instructional leadership, develop and implement an inspiring art education program, and create a positive classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic development of students. This role requires collaboration with colleagues and community partners to address the unique needs of students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds in an urban setting.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students in grades TK-5 to help them develop an understanding and appreciation for art history, artists, and artistic techniques while engaging in the production of their own works.
  • Develop and implement an effective, inspiring art education program aligned with student needs, California State standards, and EFC and school instructions, goals, and objectives.
  • Plan and direct art contests and art exhibits.
  • Provide a classroom climate and learning experiences that further students' social, emotional, physical, and academic development.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive classroom and school environment that values learning and achievement.
  • Demonstrate respect and understanding of students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Assess students regularly and use assessment results to inform and differentiate instruction.
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs; refer to appropriate resources when necessary.
  • Involve students' families as partners in the educational process.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and work as a team to achieve shared goals.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families about student learning.
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities and maintain accurate student records, including attendance.
  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of Education for Change and actively participate in key student events.

Requirements

  • Content expertise in Art Education instruction to elementary school-aged students.
  • At least two years of teaching experience.
  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Single Subject in the subject area, or ability to attain one based on out-of-state certification.
  • Experience with Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports is a plus.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills; high sense of commitment; ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively.
  • Must possess a growth mindset and be able to use feedback to refine practice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university.
  • Strong foundation in art theory and history (art specific).
  • Spanish language proficiency.
