About the position

The Deming Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Art Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is crucial in helping students develop their artistic skills and express their creativity while contributing to their overall growth as responsible individuals. The Art Teacher will be responsible for creating a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to explore various art forms and techniques. The Art Teacher will report directly to the Building Principal and will be expected to adhere to district policies regarding attendance and participation in school activities. The teacher will be responsible for developing lesson plans that align with the New Mexico Educational Standards and will utilize a variety of instructional methods to engage students effectively. The position requires the teacher to maintain clear communication with parents and guardians to support student learning and development. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Art Teacher will participate in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and stay current with educational best practices. The role also involves maintaining a safe and conducive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and creativity. The teacher will be expected to manage classroom behavior effectively and provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their artistic skills.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to district sick leave and personal leave policies.
  • Be punctual to job assignments and meetings.
  • Involve in non-required school activities.
  • Maintain physical stamina to meet the demands of the job.
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date written lesson plans.
  • Keep up-to-date records and reports.
  • Relate plans to clearly defined objectives consistent with an established curriculum and Educational Standards of New Mexico.
  • Preview and have needed materials available.
  • Make effective use of planning time.
  • Revise plans based upon student needs, ability levels, and interests.
  • Use test results to diagnose and prescribe what needs to be done to improve a situation, action, or achievement.
  • Focus learning on the next concept beyond that which the student already knows.
  • Be familiar with non-academic growth, home environment, and adjustment to school.
  • Provide effective home/school communication.
  • Seek assistance and advice of professional staff when appropriate.
  • Take advantage of professional enhancement when available.
  • Develop readiness for learning.
  • Use meaningful objectives and appropriate content for students.
  • Provide information in a clear and concise manner, using a multi-sensory approach.
  • Provide appropriate guided and independent practice.
  • Provide prompt and positive feedback.
  • Utilize a variety of questioning techniques.
  • Monitor all non-direct teacher activities for their usefulness and appropriateness.
  • Evaluate performance on the objectives and then re-teach or enrich as needed.
  • Aid students in developing positive self-concepts.
  • Provide the experience needed to extend students' thinking skills.
  • Increase the probability of continued student learning through greater motivation.
  • Maintain a high level of time on task and redirect students who are off task.
  • Establish and clearly communicate the parameters for student behavior.
  • Recognize and reinforce achievement and good behavior.
  • Administer fair and consistent discipline.
  • Promote an environment in which all students feel free to participate.
  • Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to good health and safety.
  • Be aware of the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of students.
  • Provide an orderly environment and ensure proper care of instructional equipment and materials.
  • Possess knowledge in assigned grade, subject area, or special service.
  • Participate in curriculum improvement and continue professional growth through participation in developmental opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree.
  • Valid/current New Mexico teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
  • Alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
