About the position

The Guest (Substitute) Teacher plays a crucial role in the educational environment by providing instruction to scholars using the classical model of learning. This position is part-time and operates on an as-needed basis, with a daily rate of $170. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a structured and engaging classroom environment, ensuring that students are actively involved in their learning process. This includes establishing and enforcing rules and procedures for responsible behavior, observing and evaluating students' academic performance, behavior, and social development, and adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students. In addition to delivering instruction, the Substitute Teacher will conduct various activities that promote a balanced program of instruction, including demonstration, questioning, and work time. The role requires the use of different teaching techniques such as Direct Instruction, Socratic Teaching, Cooperative Learning, and Inquiry-Based Learning to engage students effectively. The Substitute Teacher will also provide support to disabled scholars by utilizing assistive devices and technology, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. The position requires strong communication skills to interact effectively with scholars, parents, and colleagues. The Substitute Teacher must demonstrate a commitment to promoting a healthy and safe learning environment, and be able to operate office equipment as needed. This role is essential in preparing students for future academic challenges and fostering their social and emotional development. The Substitute Teacher will also be responsible for maintaining confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations and adhering to school policies and safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior among scholars.
  • Observe and evaluate scholars' academic performance, behavior, and social development.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet scholars' varying needs and interests.
  • Conduct scholar activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, questions, and work time.
  • Instruct scholars using various teaching techniques such as EEI, Direct Instruction, Socratic Teaching, Cooperative Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Discovery Learning.
  • Provide disabled scholars with assistive devices and supportive technology.
  • Read books to entire classes or small groups.
  • Encourage scholars to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Guide and counsel scholars with social adjustment and/or academic problems.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore and manipulate.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing scholars.
  • Use computers and audiovisual aids to supplement presentations.
  • Instruct and monitor scholars in the use and care of equipment and materials.
  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Assist in hall and cafeteria monitoring, and supervision of drop-off and pick-up of scholars.
  • Maintain confidentiality per FERPA.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or an Arizona or other state Teaching Certificate.
  • DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Working knowledge of the Common Core Standards or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, and co-workers.
  • Strong commitment to promoting health and safety in the learning environment.
  • Ability to operate office equipment as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a classroom setting as a teacher or substitute teacher.
  • Familiarity with various teaching techniques and methods.
