About the position

The Charleston County School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year, specifically to work with students who have emotional disabilities. This position is located at West Ashley High School, where the teacher will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment tailored to the unique needs of emotionally disabled students. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of emotional and behavioral challenges and will be equipped to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social success. In this role, the teacher will collaborate with other educators, support staff, and parents to develop and execute effective teaching strategies that address the diverse needs of students. The teacher will also be responsible for monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, and providing regular feedback to students and their families. A key aspect of this position involves fostering a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages student engagement and emotional growth. The Special Education Teacher will participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and emotional disabilities. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Emotional Disabilities.
  • Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective teaching strategies tailored to individual student needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Experience in a high school setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with behavioral intervention strategies.
