About the position
The Teacher Assistant position at Cumberland County Schools is a full-time role focused on providing academic support and assistance to students under the guidance of a teacher. Responsibilities
- Gives group instruction as prescribed by the teacher and provides individualized instruction.
- Demonstrates various instructional activities and checks students' work while in progress.
- Keeps students on task and praises their achievements.
- Reports student progress to the teacher.
- Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment, prepares visual aids, and duplicates materials.
- Serves as a proctor during testing and scores students' papers as instructed by the teacher.
- Checks and reports attendance, enters data in health records, and records student behavior.
- Supervises students in the classroom and other locations, promoting self-esteem and teaching social skills.
- Reconciles minor student conflicts and participates in the development of discipline policy.
- Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods and reports discipline problems to the teacher or principal.
Requirements
- Minimum of 24 semester hours completed in any discipline with passing Work Keys Assessments.
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
- Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
- Must have a valid NC Driver's License.
