About the position

The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for performing skilled mechanical and electrical work related to the inspection, service, installation, repair, and alteration of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigerant systems. This role operates under the supervision of the HVAC/R Project Leader and Trades Foreman, ensuring that all systems function efficiently and comply with safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on high voltage switch gear, walk-in freezers, and cafeteria equipment related to HVAC.
  • Assist with fabrication and installation of duct work, airflow systems, and condensers.
  • Remove old equipment and refrigerants according to applicable laws and safety standards.
  • Clean evaporators, condensers, drain lines, and motors to ensure efficient energy management.
  • Perform electrical repair and maintenance duties, including installation and adjustment of motors and transformers.
  • Maintain air handlers and perform tune-ups on chillers.
  • Operate, maintain, inspect, and repair HVAC-related equipment.
  • Test, adjust, and calibrate boiler and air conditioning machinery.
  • Respond to reports of heating or cooling problems and make emergency repairs.
  • Administer building energy management systems and assist with installation of controls and devices.
  • Interpret load factors to ensure adequate heating and cooling of spaces.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous journey level HVAC-Refrigerant experience.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and insurable by the District's insurance carrier.
  • Possess Section 608 Technician Certification.
  • Ability to pass District designated post-offer lift test.
  • Complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of electronics, including microprocessor operations and digital controls.
  • Basic knowledge of construction, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing concepts.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations in HVAC.
