About the position

Colville School District is now accepting applications for Emergency Certificated Substitute Teachers. Candidates must complete process with Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and Colville School District to receive an Emergency Certificate. Candidates must possess a dedication and enthusiasm to work with school students of all ages in the classroom environment, utilizing effective teaching and classroom management methodologies, while creating positive classroom climate and fostering engaged learning. Candidates need an active account created with OSPI and an active profile in the e-cert application.

Responsibilities

  • Have the same responsibilities and workday as regular teachers.
  • Follow the lesson plan prepared by the regular teacher or comply with the instruction from the principal.
  • Work as a positive and collaborative member of the school staff to foster the primary instructional teaching goals of the Colville School District.
  • Leave comprehensive notes to teacher regarding the days' lesson and student behavior.
  • Provide a classroom climate that is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency.
  • Maintain the 'housekeeping' arrangement of the regular teacher.
  • Administer no corporal punishment to a child.
  • Complete building report, including attendance reports and discipline referral, if necessary.
  • Long term subs may also complete student progress, report cards and warning slips after conferring with the principal.
  • Communicate to parents with the approval of the principal.
  • Report to the main office at the end of the school day to sign out and return keys if necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings unless excused by the principal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree as a requirement for employment.
  • Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Candidate must possess Emergency Substitute Certificate prior to placement in classroom.
  • Ability to develop understanding of learning styles and apply learning styles research to instruction while following teacher/principal teaching instructions for meeting each daily assignment.
  • Ability to plan, initiate, prepare and implement teaching strategies to meet the Districts teaching plan for the day(s), providing successful teaching leadership.
  • Possess the capacity and motivation to learn developmental and behavioral expectations appropriate to the various age students.
  • Favorable reporting of a state and national fingerprint background check is required.
