About the position

The Para Educator 3 position at Lynden School District is designed for individuals who will work under the direct supervision of certificated staff in preschool and transitional kindergarten classrooms. This role focuses on assisting high-needs students with self-care tasks and providing continuous support to those with severe disabilities and significant behavior concerns. The position aims to foster independence in students while ensuring their educational and personal needs are met.

Responsibilities

• Contribute positively to a team effort
• Relate well to students, parents, and colleagues
• Effectively communicate through oral and written language with others
• Assist teachers in the preparation of relevant educational tools and materials for classroom use
• Reinforce listening, verbal, reading, and writing skills

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of two years of college or an associate's degree, or passing the ETS test for paraprofessional
• Previous successful experience working with preschool-age students in a school setting
• Experience supporting the needs of students with disabilities and medical needs preferred
• Ability to work in a small-group setting
• Ability to engage and respond to students of a wide range of physical, social, cognitive, and behavioral needs
• Experience academically assisting students
• Ability to relate, interact, and communicate with parents/students
• Experience working with English Language Learners preferred
