About the position

The Chief of Staff to the Board Member at the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is a senior-level managerial role responsible for providing strategic and operational support to an appointed Board Member. This position involves maintaining effective communication with stakeholders, advising on policies, and coordinating program activities. The role requires independent judgment and initiative, reporting directly to the Board Member while ensuring the smooth operation of their office.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational support to the Board Member.
• Coordinate Board Member programs, activities, and outreach efforts.
• Prioritize tasks, conduct daily briefings, and set schedules for the Board Member.
• Arrange and participate in meetings and conferences for the Board Member.
• Conduct research, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the Board Member's duties.
• Monitor relevant legislation and provide updates to the Board Member.
• Develop and maintain effective communication with TWDB staff and external stakeholders.
• Maintain confidential and sensitive information related to the Board Member's office.
• Ensure compliance with records retention procedures for files and documents.
• Attend mandatory training courses to maintain required certifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business, natural sciences, public or policy administration, or a related field.
• Substantial experience in the development of public policy.
• Knowledge of Texas Water Code and relevant laws and regulations.
• Skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous work experience with the Texas Legislature or state agencies.
• Experience in water infrastructure planning, conservation, and financing.
• Juris Doctorate degree.
