About the position
The Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Early and Middle Grades Education at West Chester University is a full-time role beginning in August 2025. The position focuses on teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising field experiences, and engaging in scholarly activities. The ideal candidate will contribute to the department's mission of preparing and developing teachers while fostering a collaborative and innovative learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Early and Middle Grades Education, offered in various formats including in-person, online, and hybrid.
- Supervise field experience courses and student teaching, collaborating with diverse school communities.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications.
- Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees.
- Mentor and advise students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A doctorate in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, or a closely related field (ABD may be considered, must be completed by December 2025).
- A minimum of three years full-time teaching experience as the general education classroom teacher of record in schools with children between PreK-grade eight.
- Teaching certification (current or expired) in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Middle Level Education.
Nice-to-haves
- Five or more years of PK-8 classroom teaching experience.
- Experience teaching in diverse settings or with diverse learners.
- Experience teaching early childhood, elementary, or middle grade courses at a university or higher education setting.
- Experience mentoring or working with pre-service and/or in-service teachers.
- Experience supervising pre-service teachers in field placements from PreK to Grade 8.
- Experience teaching at a public school in the United States.
- Experience teaching and/or providing instructional learning online.
- Record of scholarly presentations and publications.
- Record of serving university, school district, and/or education profession through participation in various committees.
- Experience authoring or co-authoring grant funding for professional activities.
