About the position

Contra Costa Country Club of Pleasant Hill, CA is approximately 20 miles northeast of San Francisco. In 2015, the club completed an expansive golf course renovation which included new tees, greens, and bunkers, as well as re-grassing the entire course with perennial ryegrass and bentgrass greens. The club is excited to celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2025. With its eyes focused on the future, renovations to the practice facility and maintenance facilities will start in the New Year! Assistant Superintendents will develop an understanding for sustaining a property dedicated to turfgrass uniformity with reclaimed water in a transition zone of California. He or she will assist in staff management and training, agronomic plan development and implementation, irrigation management, and course projects/construction. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or individual looking to further develop their agronomic, managerial, and business skillsets required to advance in the industry. Responsibilities

  • Routinely inspects and reviews the maintenance and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
  • Monitors and manages daily putting surface irrigation along with the 1st Assistant and Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Coordinates with Superintendent and 1st Assistant Irrigation Technicians in daily operation and maintenance of Toro Lynx Irrigation System.
  • Performs granular and foliar application on golf course playing surfaces.
  • Helps to manage team members that may include Mechanics, Spray Technicians, Irrigation Technicians, Foreman, and Greenskeepers.
  • Ensures that team members properly care for and maintain equipment.
  • Participates in administering effective orientation and training to new and current associates.
  • Assists in record keeping of maintenance activities and costs.
  • Participates in the running of and recordkeeping of Green Committee Activities.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or completed degree (Bachelors or AA) in Agronomy/Horticulture/Plant or Soil Science.
  • One to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate within 6 months.
