About the position

The Machinist at Badger Meter is responsible for setting up and operating various computer-controlled and mechanically controlled equipment to produce precision metal parts. This role involves taking precise measurements, selecting appropriate machines and settings, and ensuring the quality of the finished products. The position plays a crucial part in the manufacturing process, contributing to the company's mission of preserving and protecting water resources through innovative technology.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, assist, and operate conventional, special-purpose, computer, and numerical control CNC machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.
  • Work from detailed instructions, blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work pieces.
  • Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining.
  • Adjust machine controls, offsets, fixtures, and stops.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings.

Requirements

  • High School degree/GED required; Trade school preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with lathes and CNC programs desired.
  • Intermediate proficiency in math required.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
