About the position

The Laser Operator-I position at Tegra Medical involves operating computer numerical control (CNC) laser processing machines to produce high-quality parts with close tolerances. The operator will be responsible for following standard operating procedures and instructions to ensure that the specifications for quality and throughput are met. This role requires a keen awareness of the manufacturing process, including the ability to monitor machine operations and detect any malfunctions that may occur during production. The operator will also be tasked with maintaining a clean and safe work environment, performing daily maintenance on equipment and tools, and conducting inspections of their own work to ensure compliance with quality standards. In addition to operating the laser machines, the Laser Operator-I will perform various secondary operations, such as cleaning parts and work areas, and assisting other team members as needed. Effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and team leaders is essential for coordinating activities and ensuring the smooth operation of jobs. The operator will also be responsible for recording measurements and monitoring trends to maintain specifications and minimize variations in the manufacturing process. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, as the operator must be able to identify discrepancies and notify the appropriate personnel when adjustments are needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, good manual dexterity, and the ability to use measurement and inspection tools effectively. A positive attitude and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations are also important traits for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC laser processing machines to achieve specifications for quality and throughput.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform ERP system transactions as required.
  • Conduct daily maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Follow prescribed operation sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
  • Load control media to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from the database.
  • Ensure work pieces are properly covered with assist gas as needed per setup instructions.
  • Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions and notify supervisors of discrepancies.
  • Perform part inspections during the laser process using measuring instruments such as microscopes, optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisors to coordinate activities and transfer information regarding job status.
  • Perform 1st piece and in-process inspections for self and peers as trained.
  • Record measurements per inspection plans and monitor for trends.
  • Assist with secondary operations such as cleaning parts and work areas.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years' experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC Machining Operator is preferred.
  • Experience operating Lasag, Kohler, Coherent/Rofin, or IPG Lasers is helpful.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, or metals is desired.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools effectively.
  • Strong work habits, attendance adherence, and positive attitude are required.
  • Flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations and other functions within manufacturing as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate of a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.
