About the position

Oatey has been a trusted name in the plumbing industry since 1916, providing reliable, high-quality products for both residential and commercial plumbing needs. The Cleveland plant is an air-conditioned environment that emphasizes a team atmosphere and a commitment to safety and quality. We are looking for a Material Flow Coordinator (MFC) who will adhere to standard work and ensure timely delivery and retrieval of materials to and from production department areas. This role includes maintaining accurate material inventory in the Market, Warehouse, and Production areas.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate material distribution to the manufacturing areas.
  • Perform all material handling activities to supply required items and quantities per standard work specifications.
  • Pull raw materials and/or component parts in scheduled amounts from storage racks and deliver to the work centers.
  • Report any equipment problems to the department supervisor immediately.
  • Report any material flow issues.
  • Perform scheduled audits.
  • Follow all company safety procedures in the completion of job duties.
  • Perform safety start-ups at the beginning of the shift (Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) check sheets, etc.) are in place and functioning prior to releasing equipment.
  • Wear PPE required for job function.
  • Participate in 6S events in department and throughout the facility.
  • Sustain 6S standards through good housekeeping and execution of standard work.
  • Maximize the production performance with effective communication skills in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with support areas to ensure raw materials needed are available to make production on a daily basis.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers by willingness to take on additional responsibility and/or support as assigned.
  • Solve problems as a team using the 8D approach.
  • Utilize LEAN thinking in formal and informal settings including participating in LEAN Events (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Projects, Just-Do-It), submitting Suggestions, attending LEAN Training, and improving work cell/areas of responsibility daily.
  • Use visual tools and display boards and update them as appropriate.
  • Document all changes resulting from LEAN activities according to ISO guidelines.
  • Accept and embrace change necessary for continuous improvement.
  • During shift overlap clean-up workstation, supplying next shift with materials needed, communicate issues and concerns for oncoming shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and written procedures.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment to meet operational deadlines.
  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) authorization required and demonstrated ability in proper freight handling and loading techniques.
  • Demonstrated team-building skills with the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Basic math skills and effective problem-solving abilities required.
  • Safety procedures knowledge for lockout/tagout, machine guarding and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Rework and inventory control procedures.
  • Flexibility and dependability necessary to meet operational demands of 24-hour operation.
